Baseball and Love

Cassie: Charlie, go out and get the paper. I want to see if the Red Sox won.

Charlie: Why? Since when do you care about the Red Sox?

Cassie: Since that’s the team that I grew up with. But don’t tell Dad I cared.

Charlie: Oh I’ll be telling Dad alright.

Cassie: Pop Dick is going to be thrilled if the Sox won the series. I’m so happy for him.

Charlie: We have to be happy for Pop Dick?

Cassie: Yes.

Charlie: But I’m a Yankees fan.

Cassie: Doesn’t matter.

Charlie: I don’t think you really get sports. Like sports rivalries and stuff.

Cassie: Love always trumps sports rivalries.

Charlie: I don’t think so. (Pause) Is that why you became a Yankees fan? Because you love Dad?

Cassie: Yea. But I love MY OWN Dad too and I might still love the Red Sox a little bit. Shhh. Don’t tell. Go get the paper.

Charlie: You are so weird, Mom.

Cassie: I know.
